Uncle Fester's Illness is the eighteenth episode of the first season of the original series of The Addams Family. It first aired 22 January 1965 on ABC.

Summary[]

Uncle Fester is providing the electrical power for Gomez' train set. Pugsley asks for a derailment instead of the usual Trainwreck. Unfortunately, Fester's "power goes out" just prior to the wreck.

It appears Uncle Fester is sick. Gomez calls an electrician, but they refuse to come. Morticia recommends Moonbathing, but Fester just gets moonburned. When Thing seems ill too, Morticia worries a disease is spreading so she asks Zelda, her pet vulture, if she is alright.

They decide to call Doctor Mbogo, the family witch doctor, by contacting a hunter that lives nearby his tribe. After getting through to Doctor Mbogo, Gomez mentions the spot of trouble they are having with Uncle Fester, then comments about the business doing well in Doctor Mbogo's area. After the call, Gomez tells Morticia that Doctor Mbogo is too busy to make a house call from Africa, and that he should've engaged that pygmy witch doctor when he had the chance, for he was reliable and can travel at half the fare.

The Addamses reluctantly consult a neighborhood physician. When Dr. Milford arrives, Wednesday is up a tree playing with Marie Antoinette, and is surprised he doesn't have a spear and mask like their regular doctor. He is surprised that Fester's tongue is blue. Fester's surprised too; it's supposed to be green. His heartbeat sounds like a sonar blip. The doc is about to call Believe It or Not, but Fester swallows his thermometer and the mercury from it cures him.
