Mortimer Addams is the great-grandfather of Wednesday, Pugsley and Pubert Addams, the grandfather of Gomez Addams, Uncle Fester, Pancho Addams, and Cosimo Addams, and the husband of Delilah Addams.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Not much is known about Mortimer Addams, but it is likely that he was the son of Pegleg Addams, who was Gomez's great-grandfather. His father (as well as relatives that are likely to be his uncles Bluebeard Addams, Black Bart Addams, and Bloody Addams) was a pirate, and he hid a lot of treasure underneath The Addams Family Mansion, where he presumably grew up, since his paternal grandfather, Goober Addams (Gomez's great-great-grandfather), had built it in the 1860s-1870s.

Judging from the sweatshirt that he wore, it is possible that he went to a university called Transylvania Tech, where he studied ballistics.

At some point, he married Delilah Addams and had several children, two of them being Father Addams and Millicent von Schlepp.

Later Life[]

When Father Addams married Grandmama, Mortimer and Delilah became the paternal grandparents of Gomez Addams, Uncle Fester, Pancho Addams, and Uncle Cosimo, and when Gomez married Morticia Addams, they became the paternal great-grandparents of Wednesday Addams, Pugsley Addams, and Pubert Addams.

They visited the mansion after visiting the old country and brought gifts for their great-grandchildren. They showed signs of having Waltzheimer's disease and became pleasant old people, much to the horror of the family. After spending some time with the Adams family relatives (having mistaken it for the Addams family reunion), both ended up being left with Dolores Adams' family. It can be presumed that they recovered after this.

Later on, Delilah died while roller-blading with her headphones on, and she didn't hear a Mack truck coming. Grandpapa visits Delilah's marble crypt, which he keeps in his basement, every day.[1]

After setting his house on fire for the third time, Grandpapa came to live in The Addams Family Mansion for a while. The family noticed that Grandpapa has been lonely since Delilah passed away. They decided to send him to a resort; however, due to a misunderstanding, Grandpapa thought they were sending him to a nursing home.

He started to act like he was "60 years younger." His shenanigans make Morticia and Fester think he is losing his marbles, so they call Narcoma nursing home. Meanwhile, Pugsley explained to Grandpapa that it was a resort they were sending him to, so he gladly went with the doctor when she arrived.

Grandpapa remarried to Diandra Addams whom he met at the Narcoma Nursing Home. They later left the Nursing Home as Diandra set it on fire with a blowtorch, much to Grandpapa's pleasure.[2] Later on, he had a rivalry with Grandmama and Fester about spoiling the children while Gomez and Morticia were vacationing together.

Relationships[]

Grandmama/Granny Frump[]

Mortimer's relationship with his daughter-in-law (or his granddaughter-in-law's mother) seems quite close, as he and his wife both enjoyed her cooking and he complimented her. Mortimer seems to have had a closer relationship with her compared to Delilah, but it can be assumed that Delilah was just as fond of her.

Grandmama seems to be very fond of him in The New Addams Family as she pushed aside her family in order to hug her father-in-law. Mortimer compliments her appearance, saying she looked as ravishing as she did when she graduated from finishing law school and looking old enough to be his mother, and Grandmama called him a flatterer.

However, when Grandpapa acted up in Grandpapa Addams Comes to Visit, Grandmama was quick to be disturbed by his antics, and banded together with Fester to compete against him in spoiling the children in Fester and Granny vs. Grandpapa Addams. It seems that, despite her fondness for him, she was not above harming her father-in-law in the name of spirited competition.

Trivia[]

  • Grandpapa and Delilah Addams had Walthzheimer's disease, which turned them into "pleasant" old people.
  • Grandpapa Addams in "The New Addams family" was nearly an exact replica of Gomez, including clothing, smoking habit and even mimicking some movements, he also had the same reaction as Gomez when Morticia speaks French. This is largely due to him being played by John Astin, who portrayed Gomez in the original Addams Family television show.
  • His second wife, Diandra looks remarkably like Morticia.
